Whether at the doctor, at the polls, or even at a Taylor Swift concert, diversity of identity and perspective is omnipresent in American life. As that diversity increases and plays an even more prominent role in our relations with others, IA is working to embed a respect-relate-cooperate paradigm across our civic landscape. The Team Up Project, our collaboration with three of our nation’s leading civic service organizations — Catholic Charities, Habitat for Humanity, and the YMCA of the USA, began the Launch Phase in January 2023. As a grantee of our Team Up Project, YMCA of Florida’s First Coast (Jacksonville, FL) partnered with the Jewish Community Alliance to unify against the rise of antisemitism and other hate-motivated behavior, educating and inspiring their neighbors to build a more inclusive Northeast Florida. Their project, “Together Against Hate: Promoting Unity in Our Community,” a monthly speaker series open to the Jacksonville community and a 5K Race Against Hate, addresses prejudices and biases dividing their area. This project was featured in an article published in The Florida Times-Union in August and highlighted in a White House statement on efforts to counter hate-fueled violence issued on September 15, 2023.
