Curriculum
In this eight-part series, you get a chance to explore the foundational concepts of interfaith cooperation and bridgebuilding, learn about inspiring interfaith leaders, and examine the history of American religious diversity.
These videos feature a multitude of different voices discussing concepts that are key to interfaith leadership and bridgebuilding. Thought provoking discussion questions are available under each segment to think about or discuss with others.
This curriculum was designed to be adaptable to meet the needs of leaders in diverse settings and disciplines. The videos can be used on their own to explain a discrete topic or as a series to provide in-depth context. Faculty and civic leaders have used some or all the videos in a variety of contexts, including as the main and/or supplemental material in courses on healthcare, business, civic leadership, and international studies.
The videos and discussion questions are free and easy to access on the Interfaith America website.
The series begins with an overview of fundamental questions around religious identity and moves on to the interfaith building blocks of social theory, pluralism, and religious literacy. Other videos help participants to understand the history of interfaith cooperation in the United States, learn skills such as dialogue facilitation, and be able to better recognize and address issues of religious difference and its impact on everyday life, including in several professional sectors such as business, medicine, and education.
Most videos feature a combination of examples and concepts related to both bridgebuilding and interfaith cooperation. There are three videos that offer specific bridgebuilding examples suitable for civic contexts. They can be found in lessons 3.3, 6.3, and 7.3.
This series is a flexible tool that can be used in a variety of formats and contexts. The videos can be used in a classroom setting as a series or to illustrate specific concepts. Campus professionals have also found these materials useful for student leadership training, interfaith clubs, orientation programming, and staff development. The skills and knowledge included in this course are relevant to students and participants interested in the liberal arts and humanities, as well as professions such as medicine, business, education, and technology that are experiencing rapid religious diversification. Civic leaders may also find the concepts and examples provided in the videos to be helpful in a non-academic context.
