Faith + Democracy Grant

Leveraging Interfaith Leadership to Promote a Healthy Democracy

Applications Closed August 31

Grant Information

At Interfaith America, we believe that religious diversity is a strength of our democracy. When we engage that diversity proactively, we can address the major challenges of our communities and our nation. Yet, engaging across deep differences is work that requires interfaith leadership skills and resources. As a nation that invites every individual to contribute their best and to participate in the daily work of democracy, we invite you to strive to realize this potential and promise through this funding opportunity.

The Faith + Democracy Grant seeks to equip members of the Emerging Leaders Network to support their communities before, during, and following the 2024 Presidential Election. Projects can look like creating access to polling locations, supporting poll workers, hosting educational events around the election, offering community support after the election, creating resources that can support communities in times of polarization, and more.

Emerging Leaders

The Faith + Democracy Grant is offered exclusively to the members of Interfaith America’s Emerging Leaders Network, made up of young professionals applying interfaith skills beyond higher education, to create initiatives, events, or projects that contribute to the mission of Interfaith America. Grant recipients will use the funding to carry out a nonpartisan project to foster healthy democratic practices through an interfaith lens.

Grant Details

Applicants must be members of Interfaith America’s Emerging Network, made up of young professionals applying interfaith skills beyond higher education. Interfaith leaders beyond the Emerging Leaders Network dedicated to bridge building beyond higher education are also eligible to apply.

  • Only non-partisan projects will be supported (such as transportation to the polls, information about polling locations and logistics, supporting communities after the election, etc).
  • Projects should focus on supporting healthy democratic and civic practices.
  • Projects that engage local institutions, organizations, and partners will be prioritized.

Funding is available up to $1,500. Up to 50% of the total funding can be used for self-compensation.

  • August 1, 2024: The application period is open.
  • August 31, 2024: The application period is closed.
  • September 1-5, 2024: Selection decisions communicated to applicants.
  • September 6, 2024: Grant implementation period begins.
  • March 1, 2025: Grantees will provide a final report on their projects; grant implementation period concludes.

Given the long pattern of marginalization and disenfranchisement of non-white communities, proposals that support voting access, election information, and community care within minority populations will be prioritized.
