As a son of Indian immigrants raised in Texas, Simran Jeet Singh has confronted racism, bullying, and ethnic slurs throughout his life. But instead of responding with anger, Singh chose to seek the good in everyone around him, inspired by his Sikh faith.
Today, Singh is a renowned human rights activist, scholar, educator, children’s book author, and columnist with millions of followers. He also serves as the Executive Director of the Aspen Institute’s Program on Religion & Society and believes that we need to rewire our culture to see humanity in everyone around us, live with compassion, celebrate difference and see ourselves within the context of universal connectedness.
In his new book, THE LIGHT WE GIVE: How Sikh Wisdom Can Transform Your Life (Riverhead Books), Singh invites readers to embrace lessons he’s learned as “a brown-skinned, turban-wearing, beard-loving, sports-playing dude trying to survive in modern America.”
On Thursday, July 21, Singh will discuss his new book with Qasim Rashid, an author, human rights activist, politician, and attorney.
