Chris Portman

Senior Director of Institutional Advancement Chris Portman began his career as an attorney but quickly gravitated to the nonprofit world. After teaching legal writing and working in a law library, he spent several years as an at-home dad, then went back to work as a reference librarian and later worked in advancement for two independent schools. He has a B.A. in English from Notre Dame, a J.D. from Michigan Law School, an MLS from Rosary College, and studied with the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago. Chris enjoys gardening, cooking, woodworking, and both ND and Buffalo sports teams. A lifelong Catholic, he believes in both large-C Catholic heritage and small-c catholic universality and is drawn to interfaith initiatives as a path toward both learning and peace.
