Top Seven Interfaith America Posts to Watch and Read for Hispanic Heritage Month

To commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month, Interfaith America’s editorial team rounded up seven of our favorite articles on our platform written by and about inspiring Latinx/a/o interfaith leaders from diverse religious communities.
1. My Moral Responsibility to Get the Hispanic Community Vaccinated
Laura Bohorquez, who manages community health workers at Southwest Suburban Immigrant Project in Chicago, shares how her faith inspires her to believe in her moral obligation to guide others in their decision, provide them with accurate and timely information, and help them overcome any obstacles to make the best possible decision for themselves and their communities.

Jacqueline Perez Valencia manages the South –Central Los Angeles Career Ambassadors Program at CD Tech in Los Angeles to foster leaders and organizers in the community to fight the economic and social impacts of poverty. For Labor Day, she writes about her father, a day laborer, and how he and her spiritual faith inspire her to stand up for the rights of day laborers.

Dolores Huerta, an American labor leader and civil rights activist, joins in conversation with Dr. Antonio Flores, president and C.E.O. of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities in this February webinar sponsored by IFYC. Huerta expressed her excitement at the opportunity to share the role of religious institutions—including her own spiritual formation—in building a more just and equitable society.
4. Faith, Hope, and Eloteros: How One Chicago Nonprofit Is Responding to the Pandemic
Berto Aguayo, executive director and co-founder of Increase the Peace, a Chicago-based organization that tackles the root causes of violence through leadership development and community organizing, speaks with IFYC on how his organization came together to support Black and Brown communities during the pandemic.
