Erica Ramirez
Director of Research, Auburn Theological Seminary
Dr. Erica Ramirez is a third generation Pentecostal and a fifth generation Texan from San Antonio. A sociologist of religion, Erica specializes in the study of global pentecostalisms. She studied with the late Venezuelan sociologist of religion, Otto Maduro at Drew Theological School. Her research has been supported by the Louisville Institute and the Forum for Theological Exploration. She has written analysis on politics and religion for Religion News Service, Texas Monthly, and The Washington Post; she has offered expert commentary for The New York Times. Erica is currently at work on her first book, about the US’ long (but at present, poorly understood) tradition of anti-hierarchy. In Erica’s free time, she teaches history to seminary students for Baylor University. Her Substack subscriptions include: Ryan Burge, Jenny Walton, and Erika Verniuk. Erica lives with her partner of 25 years, Chris–and has three kids and a “majestic” sized Great Pyrenees dog called “Bigness.” For happy hour, Erica chooses Caipirinhas, Ranch Water, and/or Cabernet Sauvignon (from Rutherford).
