Magazine Editorial Guidelines

We seek contributions that present a wide range of experiences and perspectives from a diverse set of worldviews on the opportunities and challenges of American pluralism. 

Interfaith America Magazine exists to tell the story of American pluralism.

Please review our editorial guidelines:

  • IA reserves the exclusive right, in its sole discretion, to require editorial revisions – including adjustments to content, structure, or tone, to ensure missional alignment – to any content prior to publication, and further retains the right to withhold publication or retract, remove, or unpublish any content at any time, for any reason.
  • Any and all content on the magazine (including podcasts, video, and written work) must further the goal of advancing American pluralism and the work of Interfaith America. This includes, but is not limited to, the following guidelines:
    • We will not publish any content that attempts to speak on behalf of or to entire identity communities. Authors are encouraged to speak in the first person about their own values and beliefs.
    • When describing or referring to situations about which there is substantial disagreement and/or emotion, it is necessary to use appropriately provisional and careful language. We will not publish any content that describes one person’s or community’s view of a disputed issue as mere fact, or claim greater consensus for a particular view than is evidenced.
    • Whenever possible, authors should link to reputable outside sources to substantiate any claims made.
    • We will not publish any perspective that condones – or seemingly appears to condone – political, religious, or communal violence.
    • We will not publish any content that engages in derogatory or stereotypical generalizations about any identity or community.
    • All content should demonstrate a genuine and healthy desire to engage with others who might see the content differently.
    • Within these guidelines, Interfaith America is committed to soliciting and sharing a broad range of viewpoints and perspectives that speak to the opportunities and challenges of American pluralism.
  • The following shall be appended to all content:
    • We seek contributions to Interfaith America Magazine that present a wide range of experiences and perspectives from a diverse set of worldviews on the opportunities and challenges of American pluralism. The opinions expressed herein do not necessarily reflect those of Interfaith America, its board of directors, or its employees.
